Riverina's unbeaten run in the girls' under 16's Country Championships came to an end in the final on Wednesday.
After three wins from as many games in the southern conference pool stage, Riverina were upstaged by Western in Canberra.
Riverina scored a five-wicket win over their rivals earlier in the week, but struggled to make inroads with the bat at Kingston Oval.
Only two of their batters, Kaitlin Logan (12) and Charlotte Waring (10), managed to reach double figures as the side was bowled out for 76.
In response, Western were in control for most of their innings.
Despite losing a couple of early wickets Western chased down the target with four wickets in hand at the start of the 17th over.
Alice Caldow was Riverina's most successful bowler snaring seven wickets at an average of 6.53, one behind Western's Aimee Longhurst overall, while Perri Nash finished as Riverina's top runscorer for the tournament with 60.
Meanwhile Riverina lost their opening match of the women's under 19's country Country Championships on Thursday.
Taking on Greater Illawarra near Canberra, Riverina held their rivals to 6-87 from their 20 overs.
However it proved to be enough as Riverina finished at 9-78.
After taking two wickets earlier in the day, Lucy McKelvie-Hill top scored with 19 while Ebony Hoskin was unbeaten on 17.
