Jennie Meiklejohn, the River and Wren markets founder, is hoping to bring the monthly event back on May 2.

"Last December, I had proposed to start back in March when things were looking settled," she said.

"But then a couple of weeks after it was announced, it became obvious that it wouldn't be wise due to cases in NSW.

"The safety of the community is more important."

But, Ms Meiklejohn has been preparing to bring the event back from curating the stallholders right through to the new safety measures that will have to be put in place.

After issuing the call for applications, Ms Meiklejohn was "inundated" with local businesses that create handmade items looking to join the markets.

"The really exciting thing is there are obviously lots of people who have started up handmade businesses during COVID," she said.

"For some, it's their main income after losing work, and for others, it could be just a side hustle.

"We can't wait to come back. I have missed the market."

The event will continue to run at Kyeamba Smith Hall at Wagga Showgrounds, but people will need to check-in and use sanitiser while the hall numbers will be kept to requirements.

So, even though it might seem a little different, Ms Meiklejohn said River and Wren's ethos is still the same.

"It's still all about local, handmade, quality goods at a community market," she said.

"We will continue to monitor what happens with the pandemic, and if needed we will hold off on the May event.

"But, I am really hoping we can bring it back as I know it has been missed."
