District Superintendent Bob Noble said a joint operation investigating a string of offences committed across the two states has been underway for the past couple of weeks.
"This has involved a number of stolen vehicles, home invasions, break-and-enters, thefts and other matters involving at some point threats of violence [and] pursuits with police," he said.
"There has been quite a bit of danger involved in some of these matters.
"There was a degree of organisation, but more concerning was a degree of recklessness and carelessness."
Superintendent Noble said the offending occurred in Wagga, Gundagai, Tumut, Yass, Orange and parts of the ACT.
On Thursday afternoon, officers arrested a 26-year-old Theodore man as part of their investigation.
Later the same day, Riverina officers intercepted a black Suzuki SUV heading south on the Hume Highway near Jugiong.
"There were seven persons onboard that vehicle," Superintendent Noble said. "They were stopped and detained without incident. A number of items of interest were located."
Superintendent Noble said a small amount of drugs was found alongside other property believed to have been stolen, including designer luggage items. Five people were arrested and face varying charges.
A 36-year-old man and an 18-year-old man are on bail and return to Cootamundra Court on February 2, while a 15-year-old boy is also on bail and will return to court on February 2.
A 23-year-old man from Wagga and an 15-year-old boy from Wagga were due to face court on Friday.
Superintendent Noble added the investigation was still ongoing and expected more charges would be laid.
He said it was a fantastic effort by officers across the two states.
"We have a well-trained intelligence cell and they liaise with, firstly, other police districts within NSW and cross-border partners," he said. "It doesn't take us too long to join the dots."
