Local health authorities say they are pleased with the uptake but urge people to continue coming forward for testing in attempt to stamp out the resurgence of confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Wagga has not recorded any new virus cases since the Sydney outbreak began in early December, but the regions are on high alert.
NSW yesterday recorded four locally transmitted cases of the virus from 32,667 tests, including one 18-year-old man who had visited several locations in regional NSW, including Nyngan, Broken Hill and Orange.
Two of the cases are linked to known clusters while contact tracers are still investigating the source of the fourth, a man in his 30s from Western Sydney.
Meanwhile, authorities in Victoria, which recorded one locally acquired case yesterday, say their border is unlikely to reopen to NSW before the end of the month.
Speaking to media yesterday, NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said getting tested was the best "weapon" use against the virus.
Murrumbidgee Local Health District acting COVID-19 coordinator Keryl Dallinger said between 300 and 500 tests had been conducted across the region every day for the past week.
Numbers have increased since early December at the MLHD's Wagga Showground pop-up clinic, which conducted 861 tests between December 19 and December 26.
Daily tests at the clinic peaked on December 21, December 30 and January 2 when almost 190 people got tested for the virus.
"We liaise with the other testing providers including the GP respiratory clinics and private pathology labs to ensure that between us we have the capacity to test everyone who wants a test, as well as minimise wait times," Ms Dallinger said.
"We would like to thank everyone who has come forward for a test, especially over the holiday period."
The MLHD says its testing clinics in Wagga, Griffith and Lavington have rostered extra staff and extended hours as needed to cater for the increase in demand.
All tests conducted at MLHD clinics and hospitals are free and analysed locally by NSW Health Pathology, with most results received within 24 hours.
To arrange a test at any time call the Murrumbidgee COVID-19 Hotline between 8am and 6pm on 1800 831 099.
