For Temora coach Jake Wooden, the new year has begun in much the same way as the last one unfolded: amid uncertainty caused by COVID-19.

The Kangaroos are kicking off training this week, keen to get back into the swing of things after a season without football.
"Thursday night we kick off training and then we'll start hooking in two nights a week," Wooden said.
"I'm looking forward to this pre-season. Having the year off I think everyone's itching to get back to playing footy. Hopefully the numbers will be good across firsts and seconds and it'll be a pretty positive year."
The big unresolved question concerns quality as well as quantity, with the team's travelling recruits from Canberra yet to commit.
The Kangaroos' 2019 club best-and-fairest, centre-half-back Max Richardson, was to be joined in 2020 by his brother Guy, a midfielder, as well as former Canberra Demons forward Tom Faul, along with returning small forward Charlie Boyton.
The Farrer League's cancellation last year saw them play at home club Ainslie instead.
Temora remain hopefully confident they'll be back but as a new wave of concern about coronavirus spreads, nothing is guaranteed.
"The Canberra boys are still uncertain," Wooden said.
"Absolutely (it's a priority). They're a big chunk of our playing group and there are some big players there that are in our spine and if they go we need to replace them.
"They're all good blokes, but they just don't know what the year is going to bring, with work or travelling. (COVID) is the main reason."
Wooden said they have other options but the preferred plan is to hold on to those they'd signed for last year. But he's adamant the Kangaroos' season won't hinge on the capital call, insisting they'll be contenders regardless.
"I think so, absolutely," he said. "It will give younger blokes opportunities they mightn't have got. And I am talking to other players but hoping these guys stay and we don't go down that path."
Temora have brought premiership player Brad Moye back to Nixon Park along with younger brother Tyler.
But they've lost key forward Matt Harpley (Coolamon) while Jacob Turner is unsure whether he'll be playing.
The Kangaroos kick off at home to reigning premiers North Wagga on April 10. In a brutal draw, they take on the other 2019 finalists - East Wagga-Kooringal, Coleambally and Marrar - in their first month.
"You plan your pre-season towards it a little bit. It's always hard but if you know if you've got a couple of harder teams off the bat, we'll set up a bit strategically for them, with how we train and how we move the ball," Wooden said.
"We've got a tough start so it'll be a tough pre-season."
Temora have a bye in round two but with an early Easter and no representative break, they'll then have a straight run of games through to the June long weekend bye.
"I don't mind that. I don't mind blowing out the cobwebs then having a week to reassess and then going again," Wooden said.
