It comes after all non-essential visitors were banned on Monday following the spike in coronavirus numbers in Sydney.
From Christmas Eve until Wednesday December 30, there will now be no restrictions on the number of visitors from regional NSW visiting MLHD-run aged care facilities.
A maximum of two visitors for each resident can come from the Greater Sydney area, with entry for those who have recently been in the Northern Beaches still banned.
Those entering aged care facilities will be asked to wear a surgical mask, record their contact details upon entry and maintain vigilant handwashing and social distancing practices.
Aged care residents are able to leave the facility to attend family gatherings and excursions but cannot enter Greater Sydney or attend an event with anyone who has had contact with a confirmed COVID case or attended any of the close or casual contact exposure sites over the last 14 days.
Families should closely monitor the NSW website to make sure they do not fall into this category, with staff and visitors unable to attend the facilities if they do.
