And for once McDonald was happy to run second too.
McDonald took out the first race with Dana Dancer before his partner won the second with Secret Snaps.
Secret Snaps just held off his own greyhound Sold No Houses, but the McDonald was happy to settle for the minor placing.
"She would have killed me if I had beat her with one of my own," McDonald said.
Secret Snaps had been placed in three of her first seven starts and McDonald thought stepping up in distance for the Wagga Tile Centre Maiden (400m) really suited.
"She had a couple of hard 450s at Temora and it has probably done her the world of good," McDonald said.
"She just loves to run and even at home just loves to work."
McDonald was also pleased with how Dana Dancer took advantage of some trouble in the field to bring up her first win at start 12.
"She has been knocking on the door and eventually knocked it down," McDonald said.
McDonald also scored a trifecta in the fourth race with Getalong Dana taking the spoils from Dana Jojo and Dana Gem.
