Junee Shire Council general manager James Davis said the theatre reopened over the weekend after being closed for six months.
Mr Davis said the theatre hosted a sold-out event to celebrate on Satuday November 28, with performances from musicians Fanny Lumsden and Timothy Bowen.
"We had people come from from as far away as Sydney," Mr Davis said.
The theatre's million dollar refurbishment now has heating and cooling and improved stage lighting after its $1 million refurbishment.
Junee Council has also built a commercial kitchen on an adjacent block of council-owned, formerly vacant land.
"We'll be welcoming our users back into the facility who regularly use the Athenium Theatre, like our local dance studio and brass band," Mr Davis.
"We'll be looking forward to hosting more major events at a regional scale at that location."

Mr Davis said a local company was contracted to carry out the construction works.
Junee Shire Council deputy mayor Matt Austin said he was delighted to have had federal member for Riverina Michael McCormack and state member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke present for the theatre's reopening.
"It was good to share the excitement of a lot of people who worked long and hard ... A great night was had." Mr Austin said.
"Once again we have a wonderful central hub ,where we can have a focal point for community celebrations as it has been for over 90 years, with even better facilities to help enhance all the events that are held there."
