SES unit commander Jason McDonell told The Daily Advertiser his team has been called to attend incidents across the CBD, Estella and Ashmont.
"A tree has brought down power lines in Simmons Street, I'd imagine there will be a few homes without power," Mr McDonell said.
The storm - which last only about 10 minutes - caused significant damage to the city's foliage but Mr McDonell said thankfully there have been no reports of injuries or property loss.
Meanwhile, the heavy rains helped to put out an out-of-control fire near Currawarna this afternoon.

The SES has warned that residents keep cars under cover, secure loose items outside the home, keep away from fallen power lines and report all fires or power outages to Essential Energy.
It is also advised to stay indoors and avoid using landlines during the storm.
