Five RFS crews were called to the scene on Old Narrandera Road after 3pm. It is believed the grass fire was started by a lightning strike.
Crews began working to contain the fire before a sudden downpour of rain extinguished it entirely.
A spokesperson for the RFS in Wagga told The Daily Advertiser the rain came at the perfect time to keep the fire from spreading.
Firefighters will remain on the scene to ensure there is no chance of re-ignition.
Meanwhile, a separate fire near Henty has been brought under control after burning through 15 hectares before lunchtime on Saturday.
Another fire near Deniliquin is currently being controlled and is no longer spreading having torn through 416 hectares of grassland before 3pm.
The Riverina Highway between Aratula South Road and Hamilton Street east of Deniliquin remain blocked as crews continue on site.
