After acquiring special permission from the NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard on November 16, Santa and his reindeer touched down in the city.

Mr Hazzard penned an official letter noting "I understand you have significant magical powers which allow you to travel the world safely without transmitting COVID-19", and further classifying Mr Claus and his merry band of elves as "essential workers".

The arrival registered as something of a relief to the man in red, who told The Daily Advertiser he was delighted to be back in Wagga this year.

Though with temperatures peaking in the mid-40s on Saturday, the arrival did come with some adjustment from his usual home in the North Pole.

"It's very warm here, very, very warm," Mr Claus said.

"It's not too bad inside [the Marketplace] but it is very warm."

For those wishing to meet Santa this year, there will be some differences, with photos and greetings needing to adhere to social distancing protocols.

The team will be unable to accept walk-ins this year and will require all sessions be booked online ahead of time.
