An alert has been issued for harvesters ahead of today's forecast for high winds and soaring temperatures. Increased risk of fire is a concern for Coolamon, Junee, Lockhart, Wagga, Carrathool, Griffith, Hay, Leetoon, Murrumbidgee Narrandera, Forbes, Lachlan, Parks and Weddin. The NSW Rural Fire Service requests that harvesters stop to check the weather conditions before proceeding with today's harvest. Saturday's temperature is expected to reach up to 41-degrees in Wagga, while areas toward the north east, including Hay will reach up to 45-degrees. A total fire ban is now in place for the whole Riverina area. Meanwhile, Fire and Rescue NSW teams have responded to a grass fire in the past hour near Albury. It is understood the fire ignited along the Hume Highway affecting the southbound traffic. The fire has now been extinguished.
