The Magpies have long been fans of combining seniors and juniors - to give young players a firm link to the club, and to reduce the workload on volunteers - and are considering all options to make it happen.

They've asked AFL Riverina to try to align the home rounds for the junior and senior club in next year's draws so they can consider moving the Saturday senior fixture to Sunday if there's a willing opposition.

"Like a few other clubs, we feel that same-day footy is important for sustainability in country footy," The Rock-Yerong Creek co-president David Pieper said.

"If we could get four of our (senior) home games to be same-day footy, that'd be great.

"The senior club is happy to play Sunday games, then the juniors don't have to change."

There are a few obstacles yet. For starters, the Wagga and District Juniors (WDJFNL) draws can be different across different age groups depending on team numbers.

And then there's the question of rival clubs supporting the concept.

"We haven't spoken to opposition clubs yet about the Sunday side of things," Pieper said.

"We'll be looking at all of them (home games) and see which ones work.

"For us to survive, it's just got to happen and we hope that the league (AFL Riverina) can see that, if they want us to be sustainable.

"But it doesn't have to line up with the same senior club and same junior club."

Only two other Farrer League clubs - North Wagga and East Wagga-Kooringal - have juniors in the WDJFNL, making them ideal candidates to trial a switch.

Marrar and Charles Sturt University don't have juniors (although the Bombers have a connection to Wagga Swans).

Barellan, Coleambally, the Northern Jets and Temora juniors play in the South West League.

But there are six Riverina League clubs with junior teams in WDJFNL.

"We could play, say, Ganmain in the juniors and someone else in the seniors, that doesn't matter," Pieper said.

TRYC now has a second oval for juniors at Victoria Park. The club is likely to have under 13s and 14s in the junior competitive age groups next season.

Meantime, the Magpies seniors will kick off pre-season training in Wagga on Wednesday under co-coaches Heath Russell and Braid Aiken, after being pushed back a week due to a ground availability issue.

"We're going to have a kick, a catch-up and throw the footy around. A lot of blokes didn't play this year so we'll get around each other and start to put in place some things we were going to do this year," Aiken said.

The club is positive about bolstering its playing list.

"We're talking to a few and definitely key position players (are a target)... to stiffen us up and give us a bit of height," Aiken said.
