The city's councillors voted at Monday night's council meeting to revise the original approved route for the Kapooka link along Fernleigh Road, which will see the path go under the railway line at Red Hill Road instead of crossing it.
Wagga council's parks and recreation strategic asset planner Ben Creighton said the main reason for the slight change was a safety issue at the rail crossing. He said the alternate route also saved the council about $20,000.

"We started to do the detailed designs it became apparent that the crossing there was going to be difficult to achieve," he said.
"What it really does is allow us to go under the railway line at Red Hill Road as opposed to crossing the rail corridor which means a significantly less risk of people on a bike being hit by a train."
Mr Creighton said a significant amount of work for this link has already been completed from Red Hill Road to the army base with users already sharing positive feedback.
The Active Travel Plan project incorporates five major routes, which provide connecting links across the urban areas of Wagga.
