Temora proved the pride of the Riverina at Conolly Rugby Complex on Sunday as they downed Leeton to win the under 15 boys title.

Canberra club Wests took out the two girls titles, over Griffith, while Bathurst visitors, the Western Wasps, beat Griffith for the 17s boys crown.

Brumbies head of coach education Damien Tyson, the competition manager of Super Sevens, said it was all about ensuring the youth of Southern Inland got some rugby in during what has been a difficult season.

"It was a good day. All the footy was played in good spirit," Tyson said.

"The whole idea was for us to get some rugby in the Southern Inland zone because there hasn't been a lot of junior footy due to COVID, so we were excited to have most of the teams from the SIRU zone.

"The Super Sevens is something that we've been growing in the Wagga zone for three years now. Last year Super Sevens was run over two weekends, male, female, youth girls, youth boys, there was roughly 40 teams across the weekend. Restrictions didn't allow us to do that this year due to COVID but we could still get something running, we didn't want our super sevens to end, a lot of the junior stuff in SIRU didn't happen due to COVID and we just wanted some rugby."

Tyson explained that most of the visiting teams proved slightly more polished on the day.

"The teams that won played a bit better brand of sevens really. They probably play at a higher standard more often," he said.

"SIRU, especially in the female game, they're still in the junior space, they don't play a lot of tackle, it's only a bit of sevens they play in gala days or the things that we run. It looks like in 2021 there will be a girls tackle comp in the SIRU competition, which will make their football so much better."

The annual Super Sevens competition this year attracted 18 teams, 14 of which hailed from Southern Inland.
