The 19-year-old from Christchurch initially signed with Cootamundra for this year, but found a home at the Roos after the Bulldogs opted not to play this season.
He proved a huge pick up for the club, making a home for himself in the spine after initially starting the season on the bench.
The New Zealand under-18s representative now hopes to head north to play in the Queensland Cup's Colts competition.
"I had a couple of trials when I first came over here with the Canberra Raiders twenties, and that fell through. Then when Coota didn't play I started training with the Roos and it went from there," he said.
"I'm more of a runner, my preferred position is fullback. I played a bit of fullback this year and halves."
After being the leading try-scorer in the Canterbury competition, Coleman said he was keen to challenge himself across the ditch.
"I just wanted to take my footy a bit further and there's not too many opportunities at home. I thought I'd come over with my mate and give it a crack, and it's worked out so far," he said.
"At this stage it looks like I'll be heading up to Queensland to play in the Colts grade. I haven't decided what team yet, I'll have a look and see what's the best fit."
In other first grade awards Craig Field received the coach's award and was named players' player, Eddie Jackson won players' player, Ryan Cronin best back and Bowie Foster most improved.
