The charity, which supports women experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence or living in poverty, is calling for community members to put together bags of essential hygiene products for those going through tough times this holiday period.

Bunnings Wagga will be accepting donations until Sunday, November 29.

Local Share the Dignity volunteer Liam McCrory said the fundraiser was about providing sanitary items and essentials to women going without.

"There's nothing worse than a lady not having those things available to them ... the donations are sanitary items, shampoos, toothpaste, whatever you think is an essential item that a lady might need," he said.

"It's about their dignity."

Mr McCrory said he began supporting the charity last year because he believes nobody should go without at Christmas, and the Wagga community had already begun to show their support with over 50 bags donated on the first day.

"People really do get behind it, we've had a lot of enquiries today with the box being up there so it's fantastic," he said.

Mr McCrory said the campaign was a great way to give something to someone who may otherwise not receive gifts at Christmas, and those who are unable to put together a full bag can contribute one item to the cause which volunteers would put together in extra bags.

"It's a year where nobody is certain of anything, and it'd be nice to have something for these ladies and girls for Christmas."

Those wishing to get involved can follow three simple steps; donate a handbag in good condition, fill it with essentials, and top it off with a note, card or little luxuries to make the recipient feel special for Christmas.
