In past years, the 'Food for Fines' amnesty has allowed members of the public to donate non-perishable food items, and have their overdue fines waived in return. Overdue fines were abolished across the Riverina Regional Library network in July of this year, but we are confident that members of the public will still want to help local people in need.
From Tuesday, donations can be made inside the library's main entrance. We urge anyone making a donation to make sure all items are non-perishable, and well within their use-by dates. Donations will not be distributed until early 2021.
Many patrons like to donate Christmas-themed items, and while this is welcome, it is certainly not necessary. Household staple items are always valued.
All donations will be delivered via a local charity to families in need, and we thank the public.
Over the coming weeks, the library will be announcing details of our summer school holiday programs, designed to keep everyone safe from COVID-19, and using a combination of onsite library resources and take-home kits. We are also hard at work on designing a safe and practical return of our beloved Storytime program in 2021. This program, for preschool children and their caregivers, is one of our most popular regular events.
