There have been suggestions the 23-year-old midfielder faced a nervous wait with the AFL still to settle on squad numbers for next year, but Trotter told The Daily Advertiser staying at the Blues remains the most likely option for Kennedy.
Kennedy had to battle his way back into the Blues first-choice 22 this year and played six consecutive games before a quad injury sidelined for six games.
He returned in time for the last round against Brisbane, where he racked up a season high 23 disposals.
In his third season at Carlton he averaged 16 marks disposals, nearly four marks, over seven tackles, and nearly three clearances per game in his seven outings.
"He (Kennedy) is in a situation like a lot of players with the unknowns around list sizes and the salary cap I and I think Matt played some really good footy this year," Trotter told SEN Radio.
"I've had a lot of chats with (list) manager Nick Austin at Carlton and he's been really upfront that they think there'll be a home there for Matthew at Carlton next year, they just need some clarity on where things sit.
"I've had a few calls (about him), but he's really keen to stay at Carlton. If Matty didn't have a home at Carlton, I'm sure he'd find one somewhere else, but I'm pretty sure we'll get something done there."
Trotter also conceded to Trade Radio this week the list size and salary cap uncertainty had made the situation more difficult.
"Now it's probably fair enough to assume we won't know by the end of trade period," he said.
"The hardest part has not been having answers. There's always uncertainty for boys when they're out-of-contract or up for a trade.
"This year no one's got any answers. Clubs don't, we don't, which is just making it harder for everyone across the whole competition.
"We're all in it together. It's been a challenge for everyone and let's hope next year there's a bit more certainty around things."
