Forest Hill and Ladysmith RFS responded to the incident as the header caught fire on Monday afternoon, sending black smoke into the sky.
The landholder had a private fire appliance on standby and was able to quickly prevent the blaze from turning into a stubble fire and spreading through the paddock.
RFS crews worked to extinguish the header fire and make the harvester safe, but it was completely destroyed in the blaze.
The RFS has set up a guide to assist farmers in measuring local weather conditions to manage fire risks when harvesting.
