Kelly-Anne Ryan has found thrill in the spooky season since she was just three years old, and this year, despite COVID-19, it's no different.
The mum of two in Forest Hill goes all out for Halloween, decking out her front yard in blood-curdling decorations, with her own costume the centrepiece of the night.
"I'm very creative, I just find things around the house to use like cotton buds or old bottles and clothes the kids don't wear anymore, and that's how I make most of the dummies," she said.
What started out as a trick-or-treating tradition with her little ones has turned into a dedicated event, growing more extreme over each of the past 15 years.
Mrs Ryan taught herself how to use latex and special effects makeup to make her costumes come to life, with this year's to fit the theme of a global pandemic.
"I'm actually a nurse as my job, but I will be dressing up as one with a scary side this year, I'll have one eye look as if it's popping out and a fake syringe attached, plus all the masks and gloves and such," she said.
The evening will be Covid-safe, according to Mrs Ryan, who said each lolly would be individually wrapped and handed out by herself using sanitised gloves.
"I will have arrows leading people where they can go so no one is really mingling in the one spot, there will be caution tape all around the no-go zones and I will also have hand sanitiser bottles out for people," she said.
In other news:
As much as it is in the spirit of Halloween, Mrs Ryan said she loves to see the community come together.
"It's just so great to see regulars come back each year, and see all the kids having a blast," she said.
"I've even added an extra touch this year to get people excited by hiding spooky painted rocks in the palyground near my place, and anyone who brings it back to me on the night gets a special goodie bag."
