Absolum is the only president in nearly four decades to oversee a first grade premiership at EWK, taking on the job before their success of 2016. He said he was fortunate to inherit a club in great shape and is proud to hand it over in a similar position.
"We've got a great committee and the club's in a great spot. We've got the best coach in the Riverina (Matt Hard), a good playing list, great supporters, good sponsors and the year off hasn't affected us," he said.
"It's easy to get new help and change roles when the club's in a good position.
"It's not that easy when it's tough."
Absolum said the club has been on the incline for a decade, after going through "some dark times". The 2016 grand final is a highlight but it's not the only one.
"That premiership year was a result of people before (me). I can't go claiming that," Absolum said. "It is a highlight but so is working with (coaches) Gav McMahon and Matt Hard. I've probably been spoilt there. And the whole playing group - the highlight is the great people around our footy club."
He said 2019, with three football grades in grand finals and 180 people to the presentation night showed the club is in good shape and he believes Bourne is an ideal successor.
"We've finally got our club to a position where our supporters are involved and coming back and the families are back there. That's probably as big a highlight as winning a flag. Obviously winning flags is the ultimate but it's also the icing on the cake - the reward," Absolum said.
"To win a flag, it starts with the committee early... way before footy starts. But you can't win a flag if you don't have a good committee, a good playing group, good sponsors. There's a whole range of things that have to line up for you to achieve success."
Long-serving vice president Lindsay Gillard has also stepped aside.
Absolum says they'll both still be helping out around the club, just not in formal roles.
