GEORGE Alexander is hopeful his 'on again, off again' football cycle has run its course after the Osborne forward signed with Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong for next season.
The 22-year-old didn't play at all this year with a hamstring injury, and also missed all of 2018 after seriously injuring his knee in a car crash in the aftermath of Osborne's 2017 Hume League premiership.
After a few years of trying the Lions have finally got their man, with Alexander set to form a strong key forward partnership with the recently resigned Riley Corbett.
Alexander said the fact his girlfriend, gun netballer Courtney Menzies, was keen to return to the club also played a role
"I didn't play at all this year. In the trial games I did my hammy and never got back," he said.
"It (Menzies) played a big role, and to also experience a bit of different footy. It wasn't easy leaving Osborne but it felt the time was right for Court and I.
"Ganmain have been talking to me for a few years now, I get a phone call most years and I was just keen to try something different."
Alexander is confident he and Corbett can work in tandem together.
"We've never played together before but I prefer to get up the ground a bit and Riley stays at home, I think it will work well."
Forward Nick Murray was superb for the Lions this year before breaking his collarbone in the dying moments of this year's elimination final win over Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes, but is expected to play at a higher level this year.
"He's a good key position player. Full forward or a centre half forward, wherever we choose to use him," Lions chairman of selectors David Rava said of Alexander.
He'll be a real asset to the team, especially given we probably won't have Nick. It's exciting for the club."
Rava said the Corbett and Alexander combination would open up options.
