With a number of Wagga pubs and eateries vying for the prestigious accolade, the community voted for their favourite to narrow down the selection to a top two.
The Schnitty Committee Podcast crew then had the job of deciding a single winner.
Between the Kooringal Hotel and the Union Club Hotel, the latter took the top spot - but not just for Wagga.
The pub's schnitty ranked at number one for NSW out of the committee's travels so far, graded against ten criteria including size, affordability, energy and the vibe of the venue.
The Union scored a total 96.33/100, with the committee's Mitchell Coombs describing the meal as "electric" in the podcast.
The pub's chef David Obudzinski said he was overwhelmed by the verdict.
"There's some really great competition in Wagga in terms of schnitzels, because it really is a pub-feed-focused city so everyone wants that accolade," he said.
Mr Obudzinski said the secret was simplicity.
"We try to keep it simple, don't over complicate it," he said.
"It also comes down to our suppliers, the great butchers down at Lake Street who supply all of our meat longer than I've been here."
In other news:
The Kooringal Hotel was not far behind, though, now ranking in at equal second for state so far with 95.33/100.
Mr Coombs said in the podcast that their schnitzel was glistening when served.
"It's catching the sun, it's beautiful," he said.
He described the dish as "phenomenal", with the "perfect balance between crunch and softness".
