Adam Symons, fondly known as Moosa, was doing some work on his property when his right arm became tangled in a round baler, causing it to detach from his body.

He managed to drive the tractor still to get help from a nearby farmer who applied a tourniquet his limb before emergency services arrived and airlifted the 36-year-old to Canberra.

Best mate, Nathan McPherson was shocked to hear the news and decided to start GoFundMe to ease the burden.

"I just wanted to help him out financially," he said.

"The recovery, the rehab and all these surgeries he is going to have will add up.

"His family will also have to be in Canberra a fair bit so accommodation, food and transport will also cost a bit."

The pair have known each other since birth, growing up on neighbouring farms.

"He still is on the family farm, and I have moved into Wagga, but I was his best man, and he was mine," Mr McPherson said.

"We have always been quite close."

Mr McPherson said he could not believe that his mate had still managed to drive the tractor to call for help despite being injured.

He said the doctor's had managed to reattach Adam's limb.

"That's the best news we could have gotten. He's got a pulse down in his hand at the moment," Mr McPherson said.

"It is just a waiting game at the moment to see how much movement he will regain. The team of surgeons had him in there for nine hours to reattach it.

"Everything is looking upward, but obviously, he is not out of the woods yet."

Within three hours of the GoFundMe page starting, it already had $6000 donated and as of Monday morning had more than $18,000.

McPherson said it just goes to show how generous the community is.

"It is overwhelming really," he said.

"The little communities around Wagga and even Wagga itself are very generous when things like this happen.

"My phone has not stopped with people just asking how they can help."
