Ben Holt was named as the city's environmental citizen of the year after the introduction of the award in 2020.
He told The Daily Advertiser he is hopeful to see a lot of names listed as nominees for the title next year.
"There's probably 100 people that deserve to be nominated in this award," Mr Holt said.
"It's really cool when you see the people nominated and get to learn a bit about their story."
Next year, the city will again have five categories: Environmental citizen, citizen of the year, young citizen of the year, walk of honour, and the Ted Ryder Memorial Award.
"These awards are a fantastic opportunity to recognise all citizens who have made a significant contribution," said Wagga Mayor Greg Conkey.
As a guide to nominating a worthwhile candidate, Mr Holt recommends looking around the community for "someone who could do with a b bit of a boost".
"Someone who might have been doing good things for a long time without a lot of recognition," he said.
