Joseph Doherty took to social media a few weeks ago, offering his services for yard work, heavy lifting and odd jobs around the house, all in an effort to earn some extra cash for he and his fiancee's dream wedding.
The 'Bloke for Hire' initiative took off almost immediately, with Wagga keen to get the extra help around the house, but also to support the young couple.
"I've had about 30 jobs so far, but the rain lately has slowed things down, so hopefully it can pick back up again next week," Mr Doherty said.
His fiancee Elizabeth Manwaring said she was "totally surprised" at the community's support.
"I couldn't believe how much the Facebook post blew up, it's so cool that everyone was so keen to get on board," she said.
Since their success, the happy couple have been able to set a date for their big day.
"We've booked the venue - 100 Hills Farm - for May 1," Miss Manwaring said.
In other news:
Contrary to the big white wedding many couples dream off, the duo have opted for a unique approach to their's.
"We're having a Lord of the Rings themed wedding," Miss Manwaring said.
"My parents had a medieval themed wedding 20 years ago here in Wagga, so we thought why not do a theme as well?
"We both love the series, so it's worked out really well."
Mr Doherty said clients of the Bloke for Hire business were quick to jump in and support the unique theme.
"Someone even donated a really cool wizard type staff when I told them what the theme was, so it's been really amazing how supportive everyone is," he said.
"We want to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped out."
