NSW Origin coach Brad Fittler announced Lomax's inclusion on Sunday night after Tom Trbojevic ruled himself out due to injury.
Lomax will now form part of the 27-man NSW squad.
Fittler has always been a big fan of Lomax and was delighted to be able to bring him into the Blues' squad.
"It was a real thrill of mine to tell Zac Lomax that he's part of the 27-man squad," Fittler said.
"His name's been tossed up pretty much all year, we've got a fair few centres at the moment that are going well and also still playing.
"So when Tom Trbojevic went down, Zac Lomax was always going to be shadow for Tom. I can't wait to bring him into the squad, I can already tell his enthusiasm is going to suit the group and he'll add value for sure."
The 21-year-old joins Daniel Saifiti, Tyson Frizell, Cameron McInnes, Jake Trbojevic and Payne Haas as the only other selections announced in the NSW squad so far.
Players are announced in the NSW squad once their teams are eliminated from the NRL premiership.
This year's Origin series takes place after the NRL grand final in a major shake-up of the season due to COVID-19.
Game one will be held at Adelaide Oval on November 4. The remaining games will be held on November 11 and 18.
Lomax has only played the 37 NRL games after making his debut in round 10 of the 2018 season.
