Murrumbidgee Police District officers were called to a Narrandera home around 1pm on Monday, responding to reports of a disturbance.
When they arrived, there was a man holding a gun in the backyard, police said.
Officers tried to speak to the 26-year-old, then were forced to chase him when he ran from the scene.

The man was arrested after a short foot pursuit, with police seizing a loaded .22 semi-automatic rifle "without incident".
He will face Wagga Local Court on Tuesday after being refused bail on charges of possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm, possessing an unregistered prohibited firearm and carrying a firearm in a manner likely to injure persons or property.
