IT MAY not have been the feature race but it was the win of a lightly-raced stayer that received most attention at Wagga on Saturday.

A good-sized crowd turned out to Murrumbidgee Turf Club for what would have traditionally been the Aggies race day, which was unable to go ahead this year due to COVID-19.
Canberra trainers dominated proceedings, taking out four of the seven races on the card, including the Aggies Cup Benchmark 58 Handicap (1600m).
The Luke Pepper-trained Snowbrook ($3.60) took out the feature race, while the Joseph Jones team enjoyed a winning double with maiden wins to In My Wallet ($7.00) and Smartkap ($6.00).
But it was the win of the Mitch Beer-trained Packer's Bond ($1.24) in the WAC Members Class One & Maiden Plate (2000m) that created the most talk.
Packer's Bond made it two wins from three starts with a barnstorming victory. The four-year-old was back near last and spotting the leaders around 15 lengths coming into the home straight, before jockey Kayla Nisbet hooked him to the outside and he motored home to win by one and a half.
The win has Beer talking about a potential Albury Gold Cup down the track for the Steve Watkins-owned son of Dundeel.
"I have never had such a naturally gifted stayer," Beer said.
Beer intends to spell Packer's Bond immediately after a successful first preparation of racing.
Meantime, the Geoff Duryea-trained Front Page finished second at Caulfield on Saturday in his first-up run from a spell.
