The male driver of the Mazda utility, who has yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
Officers from the Murrumbidgee Police District have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and will prepare a report for the coroner.
EARLIER: A single-vehicle car crash near Hay this afternoon has left the driver with critical injuries.
Emergency services were called to the accident about 50 kilometres west of Hay after being alerted to a car crash where the male driver ran into a tree.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said that two crews have responded to the incident at 1.10pm on Saturday afternoon at the intersection of the Sturt Highway and Maude Road.
"It's a single-car accident and the driver is not in a good way ... critical conditions," the spokesman said.
The NSW Live Traffic website stated that the car crash has affected traffic in both directions.
Drivers have been advised to reduce their speeds and exercise caution if driving in the area.
Police were also called to the scene.
