The resident tested positive for COVID-19, but a subsequent test produced a negative result.
NSW chief health officer Kerry Chant said the person's original positive test was conducted in Victoria.
The individual and their close contacts are under isolation as a precaution while NSW Health undertakes further testing.
"Whilst we're continuing to treat the case as a positive case, we're working through that diagnosis with our colleagues in Victoria," Dr Chant said.

The case is one of five reported up to 8pm Wednesday night across NSW, with two cases in hotel quarantine and two locally acquired and linked to known clusters.
While locally acquired cases remain low in NSW, the virus is likely still circulating among people in the community and NSW Health is urging anyone with the mildest of symptoms such as a runny nose or scratchy throat to continue to isolate and seek testing.
