Tiggerlong Tonk will be in the care of owner and breeder Mick Finn as he looks to book his place in the Million Dollar Chase semi-finals.
Due to border restrictions, Victorian trainer Correy Grenfell will hand greyhound over to Finn for Wagga's heat of the lucrative series on Thursday.
He will remain in Wagga for next week's regional qualifier before they reassess their plans.
Finn admitted it hasn't always been Plan A with his star greyhound but he's looking forward to being part of the series.
"It is a good opportunity," Finn said.
"They've worked out how to get past the border, it was a bit up in the air for a while, but they have got their permits.
"They can put them over the border but have to have a NSW trainer to handle them so we've just transferred him for the week that he is here and go back after the final."
Tiggerlong Tonk has drawn box seven in his heat.
It will be the first time since he was broken in that he has been back to Wagga, after amassing over $280,000 in this career to date.
After missing the placings for the first time in 16 starts when sixth in the group three Healesville Cup, Tiggerlong Tonk comes into the series off a win at Sandown last week.
It was his 27th from 52 starts.
Finn thought the straight track was his undoing.
"He just got lost in that run but I think it was 15 runs without running a place but straight track racing is different," he said.
Wagga only attracted enough greyhounds for one heat of the series.
It means all runners will progress to the regional qualifier next Friday, where the top three will qualify for the semi-finals at Wentworth Park on October 9.
Despite the low numbers, Finn believes it is a great incentive for the sport.
"There is a lot of publicity and it gets people to other tracks so we will see what happens," he said.
The Million Dollar Chase heat is the seventh of 10 races at Wagga on Thursday.
The first will is at 3.57pm.
