In the early hours of the morning from Wednesday to Saturday, police received a number of reports of stolen power tools in the suburbs of Central Wagga, Bourkelands, Glenfield Park, Mount Austin and Turvey Park.
Riverina Police District's Inspector Adrian Telfer said that police have managed to recover large volumes of power tools in "the outer suburbs of Wagga" yesterday afternoon.
He said they are in the process of returning the stolen property to its owners and asked any tradespeople who had their equipment stolen to come forward.
"There are a number of personal markings made on these tools and we do hope they will come forward ... and go through the property with us in the hope of returning it to the rightful owner," he said.
In other news:
Inspector Telfer said police believe there are two culprits involved in this crime, but it will take time to draw a conclusion, however they remain "fairly optimistic" that those responsible will be brought before the court.
Moving forward, he said the city's tradesmen need to ensure their property is identifiable and that there is a record of the serial number.
"Always have access to the information because we have been able to recover a huge amount of property, some within hours of being stolen, so we do rely on those who had things stolen to be able to identify their property so they can get back to work," he said.
Inspector Telfer said police are unsure if all stolen power tools have been recovered and advised people to contact the police if they have been offered for sale any power equipment.
