The five-year-old Gundagai Public School student has spent her young life building awareness for heart health after her family were touched by a rare congenital condition.

Gundagai Public School students raised more than $18,000 for the Heart Foundation. With the help of her mother, Iris, and father, Mark, Abi single-handedly raised more than $7000 of that total.

The 157 students at the school did a combined 319 hours of skipping to raise their enormous total, landing the small school in the top five fundraisers for the country.

Originally, Abi's mother, Iris, was expecting to raise just $500, but that target was "smashed within hours".

"We made it pass $500 then $1000 and it just kept going. We ended up saying if we get $5000 that will be out top," she said.

"We're just want to thank everyone who supported it. It's something that's so close to our family."

Despite the mammoth effort and day spent skipping almost non-stop, Abi told The Daily Advertiser she felt "not tired at all", only "very special" to have managed such a milestone.

The Pigram family's heart health journey began well before Abi's birth when 13 years ago, her paternal grandmother Linda was given a lifesaving transplant.

"I did it for nan," Abi said of the fundraiser.

Of her grandmother's four siblings, three had inherited the heart condition.

"We knew we had [the heart condition] from a young age and it was something we'd just have to live with," Ms Pigram said.

Her eldest brother received a transplant first, but sadly, it was not enough to save him. The hereditary condition also claimed the life of her sister at a young age.

But a year after her brother's transplant, Ms Pigram received hers.

"There are a lot of feelings. You feeling for the donor's family. You really can't express what you're feeling, it's very deep," Ms Pigram said.

"I'm so grateful for the heart I've got. It's a beautiful gift. Without it, I would not be here."

On Friday, Ms Pigram attended her granddaughter's school to watch as the community fundraised to provide others with the lifesaving treatment she had benefited from.

"I was speechless and amazed to see how much our friends and our family and our community donated," she said.

"All I can say is congratulations to the school. It was so lovely to watch."
