Bureau of Meteorology technical officer Nigel Smedley said a cold weekend was forecast for Wagga, with Saturday's temperature set to hit a maximum of just 9 degrees.
"We're three to four degrees below average for the next few days with the coldest day being tomorrow - it's due to a series of vigourous cold fronts moving across the state causing windy and cold conditions," Mr Smedley said.
Sunday's forecast is for a maximum of 11 degrees and a minimum of four, and Mr Smedley said the chilly conditions would continue into next week.
"It really doesn't start to get back up to average until later next week where we're going for 14 degrees next Thursday," he said.
Snowfall is forecast above 500 metres in the Riverina on Saturday, which Mr Smedley said was a rare occurrence.
The South West Slopes is set for snow above 600 metres today, 500 metres tomorrow and 700 metres on Sunday.

In Wagga, Mr Smedley said this week's rain would continue into the weekend with a 90 per cent chance of 2-6 millimetres on Saturday and a 60 per cent chance of one millimetre on Sunday.
Possible storms on both days could see rainfall increase.
It comes after 13 millimetres of rain fell on Thursday, putting Wagga comfortably above the monthly average rainfall with 55.6 millimetres so far for August.
The region's rainfall is also currently sitting at three millimetres above average for the year.
