Cootamundra Police were alerted to a Facebook post on August 11 suggesting sheep were found being run in a paddock at Bethungra which were long overdue for shearing.
The reports suggested the sheep were in distress, and police believed they were at risk.
Local shearer Matt Raleigh put up his hand to get the job done when police got in touch for help.
Mr Raleigh and his wife Thalia, along with their working dog Sid, gave up their time to muster and shear the sheep.
Police issued a reminder to the community that it is an owners responsibility to maintain and care for an animal.
A Bethungra resident has since been issued with a warning for the offence 'Being in charge of animal fail to exercise care to prevent act of cruelty'.
