It was a childhood dream come true for new preschool teacher Ashley Woods, who has wanted to go into early childcare ever since she was in Year 9 of high school.
"I grew a passion to want to work with young children and learn to make a difference in a young person's life," Ms Woods said.
"My favourite part about teaching is being with the children, interacting with them, learning from them, and watching them grow and develop their strengths and capabilities."
Ms Woods spent the first day befriending all of her new students, who wasted no time getting out onto the playground and playing in the new sandpit and play equipment.
"They're beautiful, they're a really great bunch of children that we've got enrolled here," Ms Woods said.
"We had a wonderful day."
In other news:
KU Ashmont director Dibs Cowley said she too has wanted to be a preschool teacher since childhood, after being inspired by teachers she met at an early age.
"I was fortunate enough to have some really positive experiences when I was younger and as I've grown older I've got a far better understanding of the importance of this role," Ms Cowley said.
"The first five years are so incredibly important for a child's future.
Ms Cowley will be running the preschool as it continues to take in new enrolments for this year and the years ahead.
Over the coming months the preschool will be rolling out allied health and NDIS services, depending on the community needs that arise.
