The Blues moved to the top of the Group Nine ladder at the midway point of the season after scoring a 30-20 win in the grand final rematch with Southcity on Sunday.
After a draw to start the season against Gundagai, who only trail them on points differential, Tumut have strung together three straight wins.
The Blues fired early, scoring the first three tries of the game, before Southcity started to find their way in the clash at Harris Park.
While the Bulls never got within 10 points after the early stages injured co-coach Dean Bristow still wants to see improvement.
"I'm happy to take the two points, that is what we came here to do," Bristow said.
"There is still a bit to work on, and it definitely wasn't one of our best performances as they tested us, but I'm really happy to walk away with the two points heading into the week off."
In the end Jacob Toppin's sharp shooting proved decisive as he converted all five of the premiers' tries while all five of Southcity's tries were not.
Coming into the clash with a reshuffled spine, including Brayden Draber shifting to five-eighth, Tumut jumped out to an 18-point lead after 22 minutes before Southcity closed the gap through tries to Cody Hodge and Nathan Rose.
However the Blues responded in the second half, scoring another two tries in the first 15 minutes after the break to lead 30-12 before the Bulls crossed twice in the last 10 minutes to close the margin.
With Michael Fenn and Jacob Sturt sin binned, along with Southcity's Tyson Hodge, late in the game Bristow isn't too concerned.
"We started really well, completed our first seven sets and really dominated possession and capitalised on that and as footy tends to happen they changed the momentum of it, got a bit of field position and ball and took their opportunity," he said.
"We came out in the second half and got back on top, scored a few tries but ended the game with only 11 blokes on the field as they pushed the scoreline a little bit further than what it should have been at."
Both Bristow and brother Lachlan are looking to use the week off to recover from injuries sustained in the win over Young last week.
Bristow's back is responding better than the star hooker's ankle.
"We've got no (new) injuries, which is good, and the week off will be great for us," he said. "Hopefully we come out firing at the end of it."
Tumut face Junee after the bye.
Meanwhile Southcity will be looking to bring up their first win of the season against the Diesels at Harris Park on Saturday.
