The Collingullie Progress Association is begging parents to send expressions of interest to the Department of Education, who will only reopen the school if they get enough enrolment inquiries by August 14.
Mother of two Sara Jones said the school meant everything for the Collingullie community, which had built up the school over many generations.
"There was so much fundraising for the playgrounds, the kitchens, the gardens. So many parents put in so much hard work," Mrs Jones said.
"If this school doesn't reopen these kids are looking at getting up at 5am just to get to Wagga or Narrandera."
Such is the case for Mrs Jones' 9-year-old daughter Kilarney Trethow, who attended Collingullie Public School before it shut down.

Now Kilarney travels to South Wagga Public School, but she still keeps up the friendships with her old classmates.
"Some of them catch the bus with me, and sometimes we see walking around and we catch up with them," Kilarney said.
Linda Moloney sent her four children to Collingullie Public and graduated from there herself when she was a young girl.
Mrs Moloney said many other families around town had a powerful connection to the school, and she is rallying them to help keep its legacy alive.
"We just need to get those few families in to start off with," Mrs Moloney said.
Parents can register their interest with The Department of Education by calling 6937 3809.
