The Wagga side are the only team to win all three of their games to start the season, but the three teams they've beaten so far only have one win between them.
Coming up against Gundagai at Anzac Park on Sunday, Hay is looking forward to the challenge of taking on one of the competition heavyweights.
"We've got a lot of self-expectations on how we want to perform this weekend," Hay said.
"We haven't really put together a full 80-minute performance, I know it is very cliche but it is hard to win any competition if you can't play football to a standard you are happy with.
"We've had no troubles scoring points but defending points will be what wins us the game on the weekend."
The Tigers are also yet to lose this season, but coming off the bye only have one win to their credit after a draw with Tumut to start the season.
Hay is expecting a big challenge.
"They've definitely got a lot of experience and big game experience too so between their back line and their strong forwards as well it is going to be very tough," he said.
Approaching the midway point of the shortened season, Brothers want to ensure there is no more repeats of their fade outs towards the back end of the season.
As such they are looking to change their approach as they look to add to the lone Group Nine title the club won 30 years ago.
"Last year we lost a lot of games early and made a big point of wanting to start the season well, which we've done, but a couple of years gone by we've been in really good positions three or four weeks out from finals and have stumbled at the last couple of hurdles," Hay said.
"We are still trying to manage players well and you have to find the balance of training and being fit and keep blokes out on the paddock and interested.
"I think we are doing pretty well."
Brothers also welcome back Connor McCauley.
He hasn't played since aggravating his back in the round one win over Kangaroos.
There were doubts on just how the problem would affect the young forward for the remainder of the season.
However Hay is thrilled to have him set to come off the bench.
"Connor wanted to play last weekend and now I think he's 99 per cent perfect," he said.
"He's definitely very handy and adds more points to us while stiffening up the defence."
