Wagga MP Joe McGirr tabled the petition in Parliament on Tuesday, with the NSW Regional Roads Minister Paul Toole now required to respond to community concerns over the Gocup Road intersection at Tumut.

The petition did not reach the 10,000 signatures required for a debate in Parliament, but Tumut resident Ray Carr said it was still a strong show of support.

"In the short period of time that we had to do it, requiring 10,000 signatures is ridiculous," he said.

"It was a good time to put the petition since it has only been 10 days or so since [Mr Toole] was in Tumut looking at the intersection and the options that are proposed for a realignment of Gocup Road to eliminate it."

Mr Carr said there had been new rumble strips and larger warning signs installed at the intersection this month.

ACT woman Khayla Reno, 29, her unborn baby and her 10-year-old daughter Eryka, died after a collision with a truck at the intersection in May.

Dr McGirr said the petition for additional safety measures at the intersection had received "an incredible response from the community".

"I am very grateful for the amount of support that the petition has received from people in the Snowy Valleys," he said.

The petition exceeded the 500 signatures required for a government response.

Mr Toole has previously said he had requested Transport for NSW and the Centre for Road Safety complete "a priority review of the intersection with a view to identifying permanent solutions to improve road safety".

Dr McGirr said he welcomed the review but it was vital the government understood how important the issue was to the community.

"It is clear from the number of signatures we have on this petition that the people of the Snowy Valleys are also hoping for urgent action," he said.

"I'm now looking forward to Minister Toole's reply."
