To begin, the university will invest in four categories with nominations to be announced after the September 4 application cut off.
The four categories are the professional achievement award, service to the community award, young alumni award and association member award.
Associate director for development and alumni relations, Jennifer Galloway is leading the charge on getting alumni to nominate themselves and other worthy colleagues.
"We've been thinking about doing something like this for a couple of years and we had planned to launch it a little earlier in the year, except COVID-19 put it on hold," Ms Galloway said.
With alumni spread across the world, Ms Galloway said the awards would be a way to keep track of all the outstanding work that is being done by former students of Charles Sturt University.
"We've already seen some great applications come through and heard some great feedback about it," Ms Galloway said.
"Someone accidentally copied us into an email they were forwarding to their colleague and saying 'you should go for this'. It's really great to see the work that's being done and our alumni supporting each other to achieve."
The awards will be judged against a strict criterion by five members of the university's executive staff.
"What we want to promote with these awards are people who are working to achieve our university's motto, 'for the public good', which is all about making the world a better place," Ms Galloway said.
