POLICE have dismissed rumours circulating social media alleging a positive COVID-19 result was returned in the Snowy Valleys.

In a statement made by the Riverina Police District on their Facebook page, it was said that there was no truth to the comments.
"Police have become aware of allegations made on social media that a person has tested positive for COVID-19 in Adelong," it read.
"We would like to reassure the community that NSW Health have confirmed to Police that this is not the case.
"Currently, we have had no recent positive COVID tests in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District."

The statement urged social media users to be mindful of the impact words can have.
"Please keep in mind that what you post to social media in this time of uncertainty can cause unnecessary trauma and distress to members of the community," it read.
"Police ask everyone to be sensitive to this and consider carefully what information you share on social media."
