After reading the search was on for a lucky winning ticket sold in Tumut on Monday, the man headed into the local newsagency on Wednesday morning for what would be revealed as a ticket scan to remember.

"It's amazing," he said of the win.

"My wife was reading the paper, and she saw they were looking for a Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot winner from Tumut.

"I remembered I had some tickets that I'd been given as a birthday gift, so I came down to the newsagency to check them.

"It's freezing today, but here I am, sweating like crazy."

He was planning to take the day off work, gather some loved ones and celebrate over a drink. What comes next is something to think about.

"How could I concentrate after news like this?" he said.

"Then I am going to get my family over for some celebratory drinks. I am just going to sit back and wonder how the hell this happened.

"I don't know what I will do with my prize. I will probably put it towards my retirement.

Roger Maybury, whose Tumut Newsagency sold the winning ticket, was thrilled the ticketholder had been found.

"We couldn't be happier for him," he said.

"It's such exciting news. We are sure he has some incredible plans for his prize.

"It's such a wonderful feeling selling someone a ticket that wins a major prize."

The Tumut win is the latest in a string of life-changing lottery outcomes in the Riverina, none greater than a $15 million prize sold in Wagga in April.

A Gundagai woman had a $1.8 million pay day in May after social media prompted her to check a ticket she'd bought in a Saturday Lotto.

And the New Year had a wonderful start for a Wagga woman who won $25,000 off a $2 scratchie she bought herself on Christmas Eve, but left unscratched in her purse for weeks.
