A man and a woman have been slapped with hefty fines after they were found to be in breach of self-isolation orders in Deniliquin over the weekend.
The two people returned from Victoria on Tuesday and had been notified of the need to remain isolated for 14 days to ensure the risk of spreading COVID-19 is low.
It was reported to police that they had been seen entering a store on Cressy Street over the weekend.
Murray River Police District officers attended a home on Decimus Street at about 12pm on Saturday to investigate.
The 33-year-old woman and 31-year-old man allegedly told police "it's a free country" when asked why they had breached the self-isolation order.
They were both issued with on-the-spot fines of $1000 each.
