Crows coach Daniel Muir has urged his team to play a 'back yourself' style game this year, and it reaped immediate dividends at Mangoplah Sports Ground.
Cooper Sharman, Nathan Ryan and Daniel Muir booted two goals for the victors, while George Kendall bagged three for the Goannas.
Muir said he wants his team to play aggressively and held on after the maximum lead at any break was eight points at three quarter time.
"Mango are a very good footy side, but to our credit the boys stuck to how we wanted to play," Muir said.
"We stuck to our high risk, high reward style of footy. There was a bit of rust there but we kept taking it on.
"We've got some quality players across the halfback line and the wing, we have to play to our strengths."
