However the 38-20 win at Harris Park on Saturday has come at a cost.

Both captain-coach Cameron Breust and experienced forward Brayden Sharrock went down early in the second half with lower leg complaints.

And look set for time on the sidelines.

After centre Edan Price suffered a hamstring injury last week, Breust admitted their growing casualty ward is a big concern.

"It is terrible news but we have to deal with the cards we are dealt and go again next week," Breust said.

However he was thrilled with how the team was able to regather their composure as Southcity mounted a big comeback.

The Brethren looked set for another comfortable win before Mitch Bennett crossed right on half-time to give Southcity plenty of momentum.

The Brothers back line helped the side to a 28-6 before last year's grand finalists stormed back into the contest.

Two minutes after the break a lovely ball from Southcity captain-coach Nathan Rose put Latrell Siegwalt over before Mitch Curran delivered a dazzling pass for Bennett's second.

The Bulls got within four points with 30 minutes to play but Brothers responded with tries to Zac Wilson and Jordan Little putting them out of reach.

Kyle McCarthy scooted over from dummy half to reduce the margin but the Bulls' brave comeback fell short in their first game of the season.

While Breust was disappointed the team went away from a game plan that worked so well in the first stanza, he was pleased with how they responded to adversity.

"The first half was brilliant," he said.

"It was really, really good and the second half wasn't as good as we wanted it to be. We want away from everything we were meant to do but we found a way to win and I think that is the most positive thing to come out of today."

Brothers got off to a great start at Harris Park as Breust opened the scoring after nine minutes following a big break up the middle from Hayden Phlip.

They backed that up two sets later, following a Dylan McLachlan 40-20 kick, when Little scored.

Southcity got on the board after some brilliance from Rose, who regathered his little kick ahead, put Cody Hodge over before tries to Chris Maher, Wilson and James Morgan saw Brothers go out to a 28-6 lead after 36 minutes before Southcity responded.

Breust said it was pleasing to skip away late.

Besides their injury count, which also includes Connor McCauley from their first two games, Breust is pleased with how the club has started the season.

"Two from two you couldn't ask for a better start and the most pleasing thing is we haven't strung a full game together yet," he said.

"When we do we will be a lot more dangerous."

Brothers set up a clash with Junee, who had the bye after their round one loss to Young, while Southcity face another all-Wagga clash against winless Kangaroos.
