For the first time in over a decade, Kangaroos came out on top of the competition heavyweights.
The 12-0 victory at Equex Centre on Saturday was something to savour for the club.
Captain Gabe Knight is in her eighth season at Kangaroos and was thrilled to finally get a win over their crosstown rivals.
However she doesn't want the side to get too far ahead of itself.
"It was a good start to the season more than anything," Knight said. "We can't rest on our laurels though.
"We know the Brothers girls were missing a few people and Young had a big win."
Kangaroos made it through to the preliminary final last season before being knocked out by Temora.
The Dragons aren't part of the competition this season, which has seen Sophie Gaynor make the switch to Kangaroos.
However Knight believes having a fairly settled outfit helped them end a run of outs against Brothers.
"We've kept our spine from last year and had a few good additions," she said.
"Sophie Gaynor from Temora, Lauren Jolliffe has come up from juniors and was one of their top tryscorers last year and there were no major losses."
Jolliffe scored the decisive final try just after the second drinks break while Jada Hartwig scored the team's first two tries.
Kangaroos tackle Tumut who returned to the competition with a dramatic 12-10 win over Gundagai.
Monique Bullock slotted a sideline conversion in the last play of the game she levelled things out wide.
New coach Brayden Draber admitted the result came as a surprise.
"It was really good, really surprising but we are really happy with it," Draber said.
"There is a few younger girls but it was generally the same girls who have played for the last couple of years.
"After the year off they were pretty keen to get back into it."
Draber knows the team has to step up ahead of a clash with Kangaroos at Equex Centre on Saturday.
"I think that will be a real tough one this weekend but I'm hopeful they can come out and win again," he said.
"There's good confidence after beating Gundagai."
Knight believes the clash is like stepping into the unknown.
"We know nothing about them so we're going to have to work hard this week and play even better," she said.
Meanwhile Young scored a comprehensive 50-6 win over Junee on Sunday.
