The two biggest movers in the off-season showed they both have plenty to offer in 2020 at Laurie Daley Oval but it was the Cherrypickers who put in the more complete performance.

They scored the last 24 points of the game, holding Junee scoreless for the final 58 minutes to take a 28-22 victory.

However a clash against the tried and tested Tigers looms as a much bigger challenge at Alfred Oval.

Hall hopes the side can get up for it.

"We've got two big games coming up (against Gundagai and Tumut) now so we'll take that win and use it as something to work on," Hall said.

"We are going to be much better than that and if we dish that up against Gundagai we will get our butts kicked.

"We need to be better."

A new-look Junee outfit fired out of the blocks, scoring twice in the first seven minutes before taking a 18-4 lead after 22 minutes when Sevanaia Yalayalotoro pounced on a spilled kick.

However Hall was pleased with how the team responded.

"We had to come back and show some mettle, that was good, and it gives us something to build on for sure," he said.

"They had to work for it."

Hall thought the team really built into the clash.

New front rower Inoke Vunipola made inroads through the middle, even if he did earn himself 10 in the big after reacting to a high tackle, Mick Dodson provided impact off the bench while Ben and Joe Picker helped bring the side together.

Hall believes there are plenty of positives to take.

"I think there were lots of good little signs," he said.

"Everyone did some little things that were good, some of our middles were tough and we worked better at the ruck as the game went on.

"There is heaps to improve, and I wouldn't say I'm happy, but we are a work in progress."

Thomas Jenkins was also dangerous out wide, scoring twice in the victory.

Ben Picker scored twice out of dummy half in the first half, including a crucial try right on the half-time siren to reduce the margin to four points.

However he spent the majority of the second stanza on the bench.

Hall admitted he's still working out how best to work the side with former captain-coach James Woolford also a hooker.

Their only injury concern is Jayke Hogan who came off after copping a high shot that saw Ritchie Herangi sin binned.
